Statement from Peer Syed Mudassir Shah, Chairman, Sufi Council
Date: April 23, 2025
The Sufi Council, representing the largest global body of Sufi leaders committed to peace, tolerance, and harmony, unequivocally condemns the heinous attack on innocent domestic tourists at Pahalgam, resulting in the tragic loss of at least two dozen lives.
This act of senseless violence is an affront to humanity and an attack on the principles of coexistence and mutual respect that our world so desperately needs. Such barbaric acts serve only to deepen divisions and sow hatred, which stand in stark contrast to the universal values of love and compassion upheld by Sufism.
Our hearts go out to the victims and their families in this hour of immense grief. We stand in solidarity with the people of India and with all peace-loving individuals across the globe.
The Sufi Council calls upon all stakeholders, including governments, religious leaders, and civil society, to work collaboratively to eliminate the scourge of extremism and ensure the safety and security of all individuals, irrespective of their nationality or faith.
Let us unite in prayer and action to counter hatred with love, violence with peace, and despair with hope. Together, we can overcome the forces of division and build a world where such tragedies have no place.
